I just got the IUD Mirena about a month ago.?

Question:
Ever since I got it inserted I have been breaking out. Is that normal?

Answers:
It was normal for me, and unexpected side effect that I was not happy about. The Mirena dispenses low levels of hormones that will cause this, and in a short time your body will adjust. I was done with my break outs after about 3 months.
Take extra precautions when caring for your skin to minimize the break outs. Remember not to touch and play with the pimples adding more dirt and oil to your pores. Use gentle cleanser (so you don't dry out your skin) a few times a day. You may also want to use a facial lotion that contains salicylic acid (no more than 0.5%) to help control break outs and limit new ones.
its just a reaction .. if it persists . then go see your local physician :] good luck
not really
Yeah but it should subside after a few months. Until then keep your face really clean or get an OTC acne cream.
Yes, this is a normal side effect. I have had Mirena for 3 weeks now and I feel like I am back in puberty! I have been using Proactiv for my face and Neutrogena Acne body scrub for my back and chest.

This particular side effect usually subsides after 3 months.

At 3 months 3.5% women report acne or other skin problems and at 5 years only 1.8% report it. (Info from Mirena website)
I've had the same problem. For me I don't think it has anything to do with the IUD. I was on a birth control pill that helped clear up my acne before I got the IUD put in. When I got off that I think my acne came back. I don't know if you were on a BCP before the IUD but that could be it.
