First postpartum period?

Question:
I just had a baby 7 weeks ago. At 5 weeks postpartum I completely stopped bleeding. However I could tell I was heavily ovulating. Anyway, this morning I started bleeding again. When I was bleeding after birth it felt like nothing. I've noticed some cramping and such, and then this morning my favorite curse came back to me. But it's REALLY sore down there, and I'm bleeding heavily. I remember before I got pregnant I had heavy bleeding only the first day, and my period all together only lasted 4 days, 5 tops. I don't recall any soreness though. Is this unusual? And is it possible that this period will be at regular duration? I'm also scared to use a tampon. Even though I should be fully healed by now, I feel like using a tampon would just.. I don't know. It wouldn't feel right so soon. My flow is heavier than I recall, is this normal? Should I be worrying? And being sore - what's up with that?

Answers:
your body is trying to get back into its normal monthly cycle periods change especially after having a baby so it may not be what you remember (its going to change after every child depending on your body)
If the soreness you are describing is cramps, that is just your uterus going back to normal. Those cramps suck! Also, remember after having a baby, nothing is exactly the same as it used to be. If your period lasts longer than 5-7 days, I would suggest seeing your Gyn again, even if for nothing more than peace of mind. We are not doctors on here and if you are really concerned, that is who you should see...a doctor.
Good luck!

It will be still a little sore, and I think you are right about the tampon, because right now you are at risk for more infections. My first one after was a little irregular, but it lasted at the normal duration.

Did you have an eposiotomy or any tearing during the delivery? If so it could still be healing and irritated during your period. Dont use a tampon for awhile, if it doesnt go away talk to your doctor when you take the baby for a check up.

6 weeks is usually the norm for healing . There is always the possibility of infection, or something else going on like complex pelvic pain syndrome called vulvodynia.
