A question for the more mature ladies please...?

A cure, no- that's a matter for time alone I'm afraid. However, they say that a diet with more soy and soy products can help ease them, and make them occur for less time. Women in the orient very seldom suffer from hot flashes, and research suggests this is because the soy they eat contains something very close kin to estrogen. So, eat more soy. That's not just tofu, it's the soybeans - usually sold as edamame, and you can also add soy milk and soy flour or powder to the diet. And all those vegetarian meat replacements are often soy based as well. Dressing in layers that will allow you to adjust to accomodate the temp fluxes can also help, as will a nice little Japanese fan. Try to lighten the caffeine intake, and learn to do a paced breathing when they strike. I know that sounds nutsy, but it can help lessen the feeling. The worst of the hot sweats usually happen at night, so you might want to invest in a small portable fan you can have turned on and pointed at you to help with middle of the night attacks, and keep a lighter nightie on hand for a quick change. Although you may feel flushed, fortunately you won't look that way to most folks unless it's a really severe flush. Men won't have a clue, and the women who do won't likely say a word. Although some ladies swear that the health food preps with Black Cohash or evening primrose oil help, studies don't support that. Sorry, there just isn't really any good "cure" except time. Just try to keep in mind that the end is coming, and when it does- the real freedom starts!
I used Estroven for a few months and it helped. But it's still a drug. But since then I haven't used anything, my hot flashes have subsided in intensity, but I still have them, especially at night. And Oh by the way, don't consume anything with artificial sugar, you will only gain weight! lol
Sit near a fan, drink cool liquids, take a cool shower. I have had them for years, but it really hasn't been much of a problem. My daughter laughs at me because I wear shorts around the house in the winter time and she is freezing. Saves on the heating bill.

Oh sweetheart. I don't think there is anything much except open windows, or fridge..not very practical I know, but you do what you have to..
Try soy. I cannot take estrogen, which is what is in HRT. I was having hot flashes so badly, I was miserable. I went to my pharmacy and bought an over the counter herbal medication for menopausal symptoms. I was SO relieved when it helped me almost immediately. The package said to give it 30 days to work, but it was only a week or two and I felt so much better.
There is no cure, only relief where you can find it. Light clothes, a fan, AC up REAL high..all these things make me feel a little better. It bothers the men in the house , but then, so does a Mother in distress. I keep a personal fan next to my desk at work, and try to wear cotton or linen all the time. At night, a fan and AC.
It takes such a long time to get through menopause, but she can find a little relief in Soy..
no cure for me i put up with them for now, have been having them for a few years now, but not too bad, perhaps i am lucky, or just that i am not in the full throes of them yet, i suffer more when it would have been my time of the month and the rest of time just get the odd few, so can cope with them, the longest time without a period is 8 months, had a few 6-7 months apart, so its going to take years yet, so might get bad enough to do something about it,
even if you can't take HRT ( I can't get it, they won't give it to me because of family history) then your GP can still help. It seems to me you could take alll this advice and ingest all kinds of hocus- pocus remedies, or you could go and find out what the latest research sh
hows.your GP will know, so go ask him/her!
herbal product called black cohosh. x
It's a tough one...here are a few choices for non- HRT treatment of hot flushes
1)lifestyle change.cooler environments, more exercise, lose weight, stop smoking,
2) Diet ---soy products in your diet, flax seed oil, yams, vitamin E
3) Herbs ---ginseng, evening primrose oil, red clover, black cohosh, Ginkgo biloba, St. John’s wort
3)Drugs like clonidine, anti depressants...see your doctor for these
4)Others...reflexology, yoga, homeopathy, acupuncture, hypnotherapy
Conclusion ...none of all these has been proven to be as effective as HRT...but they work for some women.
Hope this helps:)
