What can an ovarian cyst do to you?
Question:
Answers:
Sometimes doctors do not explain things as well as they really should. The vast majority of ovarian cysts picked up on ultrasound are ' physiological cysts '. These are normal and usually just disappear when the scan is repeated a month or so later.
Sometimes of course there are real cysts, these vary in size from tiny to what are called giant ovarian cysts. The largest of these weighed 328 lbs!
These larger cysts can twist and become gangrenous. There are also dermoid cysts of the ovary, these weird entities can even contain teeth! Finally there are malignant ovarian cysts that are also thankfully quite rare.
You need to ask your gynaecologist what type of problem you have.
Some or all of the following symptoms may be present, though it is possible not to experience any symptoms:
* Dull aching, or severe, sudden, and sharp pain or discomfort in the lower abdomen (one or both sides), pelvis, vagina, lower back, or thighs; pain may be constant or intermittent -- this is the most common symptom
* Fullness, heaviness, pressure, swelling, or bloating in the abdomen
* Breast tenderness
* Pain during or immediately after sexual intercourse (dyspareunia), masturbation, strenuous exercise, or menstrual period (or shortly after beginning or end of menstrual period)
* Irregular periods, or abnormal uterine bleeding or spotting
* Change in frequency or ease of urination (such as inability to fully empty the bladder), or difficulty with bowel movements due to pressure on adjacent pelvic anatomy
* Weight gain
* Nausea or vomiting
* Fatigue
* Infertility
* Increased level of testosterone or hair growth
* Increased facial hair or body hair
i had them.caused infections and pain at monthy.they went in a pop them to drain.they usally dont stop from having babies.However you need to ask your doctor.
Yes it is true. The cyst grows in the ovaries, it can damage them and cause infertility
Try not to worry.Ovarian cysts are very common and they usually come and go.They can cause a lot of pain too as you most likely found out.You said you were in the hospital didn't the Doctor explain anything to you ? The best thing would be is to go and see your doctor and have him explain it all to you.It is very rare for ovarian cysts to cause problems in falling pregnant .My daughter has had trouble all her life with them and had a very large one on at the same time she was pregent so nothing could be done until after my beautil,healthy grandson was born.Don't listen to everything you hear as long as you have check ups with your doctor you will most likely be fine.
I have had more than one ovarian cyst. Don't worry. They dp cause painful stomach aches and irregular and missed periods. However, they are usually temporary. They will eventually break and bleed just like your period. They are not cancerous (they are benign). Actually all women get them. The problem comes when they grow too big and cause pain and discomfort. You may feel crappy and pissed that your period is heavy, but they are very normal and common.
my friends moms had one after she had three kids and they said she would not be able to have any more kids but she went on to have a further two children if i was you i would get some information from the internet just to put your own mind at ease.
A relative of mine lost a child at five months pregnant because of them. A very sad time for everyone.
The good news is that she went on to have another monster, I mean child (after much recuperating that is) and both are doing fab.
polysistic ovarian sydrome, as its know, it makes it harder to become pregnant, but it can happen, keeping your weight down also helps, thats what i was told by the hospital after a scan, hope this helps ease things, kerry
Yes they can be bad but most times they are not. Doctors can remove them through your belly button with little to no scarring and helping you save your fertility. they can be extremley painful, they can burst and many other things the doctor will discuss with you, I have had about 8 in my life and ended up having a complete hysterectomy by choice to end all the pain and surgery but that is worse case senario it doesn't mean it will happen to you. Good luck to you.
