Has a woman ever bleed to death by being on her period?

Question:

I am in my mid 40's have been haveing irregular periods for the last few years. I have always had very hard and long periods (heavy bleeding). My last regular period was in March 07 today is July 27, 07. I am taking birth control pills. I started bleeding, while in the middle of my birth control pack, on July 7, 07 . It is now 21 days later and I am still bleeding, and the last 3 days has been so heavy I have been soaking threw tampons and overnight pads within 30 or less minutes. I have been to the Dr and they dont know what is causing this. I am so frustrated!

You may be nearing the end of your periods, but ask your doctor to run a thyroid test. It may shorten your period to a day-and-a half, and you might be put on iron because of anemia. I believe a lot of hysterectomies are done because a gynecologist doesn't know to run a thyroid test.

never heard of a woman bleeding to death but am surprised at your doctors telling you they don't know why and leaving it at that. Surely they are supposed to find out the reason and treat the patient. Change your doctor

Go to the doctor you may have fibroid tumors and may have to have a hysterectomy..its very common procedure in women around your age.

the best answer that i can try to give u to is go to a new doctor..i cant imagine why they dont kno the reason for your bleeding..

Please go back to the doctor and insist that they give you a referral if they do not know what is happening. This does not sound good at all, and I would be very scared if it happened to me.

A long time ago, when certain deseases were around, yes.
But, not anymore.
