Why does leaving you tampon in for a long time cause TSS?
Question:
Answers:
I don't think it does always. I mean it's not a given that leaving it in for a long time will equal TSS. I believe there has to be bacteria there anyway...does that make sense? Because it doesn't always happen. Not that it's worth the risk to not leave it in. I do think that longer than 8 hours is not such a good idea, although a few hours over shouldn't matter unless something is wrong. Make sure you wash your hands before putting it in.
TSS is caused by an overgrowth of bacteria. The moist, hot vagina combined with a cotton tampon is the perfect place for germs to grow. 8 hours is really enough, and you can check out www.webmd.com for more info on TSS if its a big concern
Although the exact connection is still not clear, researchers suspect that certain types of high-absorbency tampons provided a moist, warm home where the bacteria could thrive.
the blood backs up into your upper vaginal tract and uterus because it has no where to go. the tampons sorta like a cork sorry for the image but really thats what its like. i was wondering the same thing as u if im on a lighter flow can i leave it in longer? hey idk but maybe we will get an answer.
Bacteria can grow in a variety of different time spans depending on the person and the environment. Obviously the tampon companies cant specify for every single consumer as to how long bacteria grows in that particular person's body. So they put 8 hrs to play it safe. Some people could probably go days and days and not get TSS whereas I am sure theres been cases of people getting TSS in less than 8 hrs.
