I was treated for bv with metrogel but didnt work. now flagyl, is it possible the bacteria built up an imunity

Question:
i did a 3 day treatment, twice a day each for bv with metro gel. it didnt seem to get better at all so i called the gyno and i made an appt and they put me on flagyl..the generic kind im pretty sure. i just took my fourth pill and i'm on a seven day, two times a day treatment. My symptoms are about the same..not much discharge but a smell and rare itching..is it possible the bacteria won't be eliminated because of an immunity from the previous metro gel? i'm really worried, i just want to be normal again, i've never had this problem and i'm desperate!

Answers:
I had BV and I just finished a 7 day treatment of Metronidazole which i think is generic for Flagyl and i started to feel better around the third day then i felt the symptoms coming back until i learned about probiotics. What you need to do is finish your 7 day treatment of Flagyl then go the the health food store immediately and buy lactobacillus capsules (The brand i use is a bit expensive at $36.00 (but worth it) and is called : Ultimate Flora Vaginal Support by Renew Life) . This will help bring back the good bacteria in your vagina that has been killed by the antiobiotics. Also try to drink Kefir or yogurt. The kefir is nasty but it's worth drinking it to feel better. Also, for those first two that responded above please know that BV is not Trich and it is not considered an STD like Trich.

I hope you feel better. Good Luck!
that is unlikely. i don't know how it was determined that you had BV, it could be that you have two infections, BV plus Trich. easy to miss it under the microscope at times.
I had that problem before and I hated it. The doctor prescribed a higher dosage, which seemed to work however I had to take them for two weeks. If that doesn't work I have heard of them doing three month treatments. Trich is a sexually transmitted disease. The antiobiotic fromt he treatment of bv can also can yeast infection. I know it is no fun being a woman!!!
See if you can get some diflucan (think I spelled it right). It's really expensive but will help with the yeast buildup, then you can take a different antibiotic without worrying about it getting worse. Usually you take one diflucan at the start of the antibiotic and one after. It has always worked when I get really miserable. It's also possibly vaginitis versus real yeast. Or, even worse, it could be both.

I've had to take both at the same time and I normally stop having symptoms in 2-3 days.
macobid is good
I was on Flagyl for BV a few months ago. It seemed like it took almost the entire duration of meds for my symptoms to clear up all the way. It may be the same for you, especially if you've had BV for a while or it's a particularly bad infection. Wait until you finish the meds; if you're still having symptoms, go back to the Dr.
