Is is odd for young women to get kidney stones?
Question:
Well lucky me.. the pain came back just as bad 4 days later.. returning to the ER. Had another CT Scan. This time, smalls stones showed. Sent me home with more pain pills & just told me to drink MAD water.
Im 23 & female. Pretty healthy. Dont smoke/drink much. Is this normal??
Answers:
There are several different types of stones women can develop...calcium, protein, and acid, to name a few. It is not necessarily unusual, and it is normally directly related to your diet.
Get a referral to a urologist and have them find the cause (if they can), and ask about ultrasonic break-down, to help you pass the stones. Often times though, many docs will take the wait-and-see approach to see if you can pass them on your own.
Good luck.
My sister is 17 and just went threw the same thing, It started out as a really bad uti then she was throwing up and had really bad back pain, it ended up being kidney stones. They advise her to drink water too. I know certain meds can cause them or too much calcium or caffeine.
Feel better!
Yeah it's typical. Well not typical, but not unusual either. I know several women in their 20's that have had them.
Also... I don't know if it's a wives tale or not, but a few people have told me that drinking beer helps. Some chemical reaction that makes things pass more quickly through the kidneys and wears down the sharper surfaces of the stones. Don't condiser that as me telling you to go out and drink a gallon of beer, it's just something a few women who get them frequently have said.
