I'm irregular Can I go back on taking birth control pills after I missed a period & a negative pregnancy test?

Question:
I have irregular periods and was on the pill continuously for 2 years. A few months ago I went off of it. Now I'm sexually active again and I missed my period on this past month of July. I took a pregnancy test and came out to be negative. I plan to go back on the pill as soon as possible and not wait for the next period to come this month of August, possibly. I thought of maybe going back on the pill and not for my next period to arrive. Is it possible? Would there be side effects?

Answers:
It is probably going to be ok but I would recommend checking with your doctor first to see what they say about this.
