My Boyfriend had a vasectomy 20 years ago...?
Question:
Answers:
Hi Puddy... you've already received some great answers, but I wanted to offer my 2 cents.
Don't trust a vasectomy to be 100%. Few things in life are 100% and when it comes to birth control, the only thing I would trust would be a hysterectomy!
Why do I say this? Because nearly 2 years after my vasectomy we had another addition to our family. I went back and sure enough! My doctor said the chances of a natural reversal are like less than 1%... but I've always had that kind of luck of beating odds, sometime for the better, sometimes not. Don't get me wrong. I would trade my little guy for anything! But I did go back for a round 2 vasectomy AND my wife got her tubes tied after that.
Just thought you should know. I agree with another of the answerers... have him get checked and I hope you trust him to tell you the truth.
BTW - What does spiderman's response have ANYTHING to do with your question? Don't be too surprised if that response dissappears.
no
After all that time, I would imagine it is 100%
I think its something that can be reversed but the chances of you getting pregnant are very slim
Well why don't you have your tubes tied if you never want to get pregnant?
Plus a vasectomy works, maybe a month into it it might not but 20 years, definitely.
There are worse nightmares to be had too but each to their own.
Well he needs to go get his sperm counted! He needs to get it checked every once in a while, though chances are slim he can still produce some sperm and yes you could get pregnant but again chances are slim. Just have him get it checked so you'll be assured!
just use a condom too it's no big deal
unlike a woman who only has a 90% of becomming steril when she has her tubes tied, (because there are two of them) a man is 100% steril because there is only one tube.

no, you can't be 100% sure. can he show u the doctor bill? more than likely u'll be fine. if. A BIG IF. u get pregnant, there are alternatives. maybe u could use some birth control to give u piece of mind.
After 20 yrs. he should be fine. Was he (and you) tested for STD's. If he's had unprotected sex, you should both get tested. My cousin's husband had a vasectomy, tried to get it reversed and she still couldn't get pregnant.
though the chance is very slim, better use condom in case.
no, it's not 100% effective. You still need to use a condom. My friend had 3 babies AFTER her husbands vasectomy.
Does that mean he has been having unprotected sex with numerous people. Maybe he was trying to reassure you but I think you should be more interested in 'safe' sex, i.e. protected sex. Use condoms, that way you will be sure you won't catch anything, including stray sperm.
well they say nothing's ever 100% so maybe I would discuss options with your Dr
If you are adamant that you do not want kids its better to be safe than sorry, maybe a coil would suit you?
I'd swap with you - I'm still trying!
Well, my husband had a vasectomy 22 years ago (at the age of 27) and I 've not been pregnant since! Yes, it's the most effective form of birth control
if its your worse nightmare protect yourself, dont leave it up to him
Hi,
'silverokie19', Is half right, men do produce sperm, they never stop but the sperm is not ejaculated because the supply tubes have been cut, tied and usually stapled.
The odds of a vasectomy reversing itself are practically none existent.

After a vasectomy you go for tests, after a month and sometimes again after 3 months, just to check the vasectomy has worked OK.
The odds of a natural reversal are minuscule.
If I had of had a vasectomy and then became a father I would be off like a shot to have it rechecked.
For your friend and her husband to have 3 children I would be inclined to ask her who the fathers are!!

well ... it's not 100% effective , my husband had it done 4 yrs ago and it's not 100% so the doctor says there is a chance so if I didn't wanna a child you better use a love glove hun,,,,,,,, condom is your safest bet ..
It is very unlikely. I had mine when I was 21, and that was 20 years ago(I never had children). I fear getting someone pregnant even more than I fear STD, so I usually date women that have had their tubes tied. I also still use condoms with anyone new, and with anyone that is not sterile herself. I never take chances.
I have been with the same girlfriend for 5 years. She has had a hysterectomy, so I need not worry about wearing a condom.
You might want to get yourself "fixed" as well.
unless he's had a vesectomy reversal, you should be fine
