How do you tell if you are retaining fluid?
Question:
Answers:
Sounds like retaining- try a lower sodium diet by eliminating packed side dishes- bagged, canned, boxes foods- no fast food- all prepacked foods contain high sodium .
In this heat especially, we tend to drink more- if I go to a BBQ for instance I have a burger or hot dog, chips, etc.. then drink a lot because I am thirsty, plus it's hot so I drink more-The next day I feel bloated and uncomfortable. the sodium (hidden sodium) from the food itself is similar to placing a sponge in the body, and then wetting it- as you know if you wet a sponge it swells up and gets heavier-
Sodium- liquid and heat are the 3 most common problems with bloating and retaining water.
You would have visible swelling. Press lightly on you arm or leg, if there is water retention it will rise slower and turn a white color. It is fairly obvious when you are retaining it - you will feel the difference.
If you are retaining fluid, you will feel bloated and your feet and ankles may also be swollen. What I would recommend is to cut salt from your diet to see if this reduces your fluid retention. If you find it does not, then I would recommend you see your doctor because you may need a diuretic to help reduce the fluid retention. I do have to warn you though, diuretics make you pee a lot.
There shouldn't be substantial weight difference. If you're bloated, just a pound or two feels miserable. Also, you have to weigh yourself at the same time- my weight fluctuates by a couple of pounds morning vs. night.
