Can you wear a tampon while having surgery?

Question:
i am going to have surgery very soon and i am on my period i was wondering if it was ok to wear a tampon while in surgery? please let me know i dont have that much time!

Answers:
Depends on the surgery. If you are having General Anesthesia that will depend on the hospital policy.

I would suggest you go as you wish, but take an extra pair of underwear and your choice of pads with you. Make sure and explain the situation to the nurse that checks you in during the preop phase and they will tell you what to do.

It is not something to be overly concerned about as it does happen and there is nothing abnormal about it.
Well. It depends, you see. If you are having surgury in THAT area then No.

And if the surgury is longer than 2-3 hours, and your period isn't light. You risk TSS. So. No.

But if not. There shouldn't be a problem =]
If something went wrong during the surgery it might not get removed for a long time and you could easily go in to TS.

No.
Generally the hospital supplies pads for you to use during surgery and do not allow tampons.

You can call the hospital where you are having the surgery and ask what their procedure is regarding this issue, they will be happy to tell you.
My hospital makes ladies take them out. I asked the OR DR one time why that is and he said because it increases the risk of TSS. Other than that I'm not sure.
