Long right ovary??

Question:
I just had an ultrasound today to try to figure out why I have some facial hair and why I am gaining weight and why my period is so irregular... the lady did a trans-vaginal ultrasound and when she was looking at my right ovary she measured it and the screen said "long right ovary." What could that mean? Could it be a big problem? She was all fine and talking to me until she saw that then she wouldn't really tell me much when I asked question, she just said, "your doctor will call you and talk to you about it." My doctor is going to call me in a few days but I'm kinda nervous and I wanna know now lol... is it bad??

Answers:
Some of your symptoms sound like Endometrios. Look it up and see if you match the symptoms of it. I have it and have for 7 years. When I had my first ultra sound my one ovary was larger than the other one. I had to have a small surgery to find out for sure that is what it was. If you do have it, you might want to find someone or a support group to talk with about it. It can be very hard and devestating.
I can understand your concern, however an enlarged ovary (long ovary) may be just due to ovulation. The tech who did your ultrasound is not at liberty to discuss what she sees on the ultrasound. The diagnosis should only be done by a qualified physician.
The word "long" you saw did not have to do with size. It was short for "longitudinal". This is simply the plane in which the ovary was being imaged. It is kind of the length of the ovary. You probably saw "trans" as well. That is short for "transverse", which is kind of like how wide the structure is. We measure organs (whether they be ovary, uterus, kidney, spleen etc) in two planes..longitudinal and transverse.

If you go to the following website, scroll down to the first ultrasound image. It says "ovary on day 6". This is a "long" view of the ovary.
