Why is my menstrual blood brown? It's never been this color before.?

Question:
My menstrual blood is always red until now. It's dark brown. What is going on.I need answers.

Answers:
Normal. Don't worry. It happens to all of us. Usually at the end of your period. It's just old blood. It's because your flow is not heavy, so the blood has a chance to oxidize and it turns a rusty color. If you cut your finger, and a drop of blood lands on the sidewalk, if you come back in a half hour or so, it will be rusty brown, too, not red.

When I was 13, I got my first period and it was the rusty brown, not red. I thought I had diarhea or something and had farted out some poop or something. So I went to the nurse. I thought I was going to die. Especially when I showed her my panties and she explained what it was. I felt really stupid, and really embarrassed. but it got me out of school for a week!
That's normal. That happens when all the gunk in your vagina, bacteria and germs mix with the lining of your uterus with the blood, the blood comes out brownish, it can even be a dark purpleish, almost looking black.
No worries, all normal!
xx
P.S. it's also meaning that its 'old' blood. Sometimes blood won't come out of your vagina, and will stay for a few days, and when you have contractions, it pushes that 'old' blood out, and due to the blood being in there for so long, it gives off a brownish or really dark colour.
it probably changes, depending on your lifestyle or hormones, or maybe it had dried up before you checked it?
Mine usually turns a brown color when I am almost finished with my cycle...Its kind of like the left over "stuff"

Dont panic!
If it is near the end of your cycle it is normal. It doesn't happen every time. But it is normal.
It's nothing to worry about. It's probably just part of your endometrium (uterine lining) shedding off.
Mine always changes to a brownish color when it's finishing up. Every time. I think the blood is just older- the flow has lightened up- so it takes longer to get out.
you might have a urinal infection
Usually toward the end of your period you will get a darker color. It is old and gets discolored. If it is happening during your entire period or you are bleeding alot more than normal you might want to make a Dr. appt.
I read yesterday at beinggirl.com that menstrual blood turns brown when the blood loses oxygen. it is completely normal
Yep, like most on here said, as you get near the end of your cycle, it gets darker. You didn't state you age. But I've noticed in the last few years, sometimes mine will start out dark. I'm 53 and pre-menopausal. So I might skip a month or two and then start. I never know. I could have a very light flow/heavy spotting, or flow like a wide open spigot! Next visit to your GYNO, let him/her know your concerns.
Don't worry!! My period will go from cherry red to dark brown. It us just natural. If you feel like something is wrong then go to a doctor!
