Abnormal pap smear had hysterectomy/ovaries removed removed 14 yrs., why would I have an abnormal pap?

Question:
If the vaginal wall has a high level of cancerous cells and does not respond to a cloposcopy than what.

Answers:
In a lot of cases, the cervix is left behind after a hysterectomy. This is a pretty common practice. In your case, this practice is obvious by the fact that even post-hysterectomy you're still having pap smears performed.

If the cervix is still present, then you could still be left open to the possibility of cervical anomalies, including dysplasia, polyps, cysts, and cancer.

A colposcopy is only a diagnostic tool to confirm pap findings (because sometimes other things can cause a false-abnormality result on the pap readings).

Please follow up with your doctor. The first step would be a repeat pap, then a colposcopy/biopsy. Then depending upon the results of the biopsy, your treatment will be outlined by your physician or a surgeon your doctor refers you to.

Good luck...It might actually be nothing, but don't mess with it.
did they remove your cervix? if not then that's probably it.
