Running to lose weight.?

Question:
I have been working out in the gym for about 5 years. Cardio and weights about 3 times a week. I eat fine. Lots of greens, and fast food about once a week. But i haven't lost weight in a very long time.
So I started running. I started earlier this week with 25 minutes a day and last night ran for an hour (4 miles..I am slow). So what pattern should I get into to lose 10 lbs in a month and a half?
P.S. I am 5'8' 145lbs woman late 20's.

Answers:
Okay, your body got used to the workout you had been doing so you definitely need an increase in intensity Here are some things you can do:
-Running is one of the best ways to trim down-an hour is too much for you this week though.
-You need to refine your diet, try www.thedailyplate.com. You are getting older, so diet needs to adjust.
-If you want to loose weight, cardio three times a week is not enough. You should run 3-4x per week, and do some other type of cardio 1-2x per week. The 3x per week is for people who want to MAINTAIN their current weight, that is why your are not loosing.
-You should probably run at a faster pace for a shorter period of time.
-If you are on a treadmill, try running at about 5.5 -6.0 for 30 minutes
Changing the speed every few minutes is a good idea, it will condition your heart as it will make your heart work harder.
-You also might want to take some classes at the gym, aerobics, pilates, take the most challenging ones and keep going every week.
You should get results, you have a reasonable goal and it seems like you will do well, good luck!
You really aren't over weight.
You're not overweight, but if you are active for at least 30 minutes a day it is a great start. Just get into a healthy pattern. Target to lose no more than 2-3 lbs. a week - that is plenty. Most of all, do it for your health and just have confidence in yourself.
doing weight training and even cardio doesnt help you lose weight. it tones you. it also adds muscle which ways more than baody fat. running will help but you will have to run ALOT more. try other things like dance. you just need to be moving and keeping your heart rate up. not actually working the muscles as much. my mom runs almost everday, 5 miles. she is also a vegetarian now. she went from about 170 to 115 in a year. so if you do this. you can lose your 10 lbs. i dance and do cardio almost everyday. and i am at about 105-108. and i kept it at that. so once you lose the weight. try to do things to keep it at a comfortable weight.
I think you should cut out the fast food. They say that fast food has so many harmful chemicals inside it that can trigger you to gain weight. I don't know if its true, but I heard that also a lot of the foods we buy at supermarkets that have been refined and processed, are actually made to purposely make people hungrier or to put on more pounds.

So if you haven't already..maybe you should try eating an all natural diet. And stuff like whole grains, fruits and veggies, water, fresh juice, etc. Kashi bars are really good for snacks. You can look in a health food store to find lots of good foods too. And keep up the excercise it will pay off! Cardio is really the only way to really burn fat. If you are sweating, you are probably losing weight too. So work up a sweat when you run or jog. Hope that helps.
Make sure you are eating enough to support your activity level. Sounds counterintuitive, but your body will go into conservation mode and can be very efficient at retaining that last bit of fat. Sometimes people who exercise a lot end up finally losing weight when they start eating a bit more. Folks with experience in Weight Watchers know all about that.

I agree with others that you may not be overweight, but we can't tell just from the numbers alone.

To successfully lose weight, you must carry out
a plan to balance your caloric intake with exercise.
Ideally, dieting should be done by eating a nutritionally
balanced, low-calorie diet and increasing physical activity.
