If you have true acne, you have to take something orally prescribed by a doctor to get clear it up. Smoking is a real concern especially over the age of 35 while taking birth control. Ask your doctor about maybe taking an aspirin a day to help prevent clots.
Very very rarely, women who use hormonal birth control can get dangerous blood clots or experience a stroke. Smoking increases your risk. If you're young and have normal blood pressure, the risk is so low that the benefits of hormonal birth control outweigh the risks, even if you smoke.
