Sex in no way would cause anyone to gain fat. It's probably more related to what you ate for dinner than making whoopie.
If you used a lot of muscles and are sore, they can retain water to repair themselves, causing water bloat.

I think it could be because they are comfortable in the relationship and not watching their weight or appearance like they were when they were trying to catch a mate. Regular sex tells you that you're already attractive enough that someone wants you.
