Are there serious side effects/risk of using nuvaring?

Question:
I'm 33 years old. I started using nuvaring last september I really liked it because it was so convenient. The only problem I had was I started feeling intense itchiness about a month after I started using it. I went to the doctor and they couldn't find anything( not even yeast). They did the pap 2 or three times. (I kept going back because the itchiness would not go away). I hadn't done anything different but the nuvaring. I was given medicine as if I had a yeast infection (2x) and still kept itching. I didn't want to stop using it but after about 6 months or so the doctor suggested that I stop to see if the itching stopped. I have been off of it for 3 months now. The itching hadn't completely stopped but I rarely notice it. I mostly notice it around my cycle. I want to start back using it but now I'm scared of the risk of cervical cancer. I have a niece who has been diagnosed. Is this a risk of nuvaring? Any info you can give will help.

Health risks

Like the risks of other hormonal contraceptives like the pill and the Ortho Evra patch, the NuvaRing increases the possibility of blood clots, stroke and heart attack in patients. The label also carries a bold warning about the dangers of cigarette smoking while using this drug. Smoking can seriously increase the risk of cardiovascular complications among patients using hormonal contraceptives.

In 2005, the FDA changed the labeling for the NuvaRing, adding warnings of bleeding irregularities, and stating that the drug product should not be used in women who have valvular heart disease with thrombogenic complications. The changes also included the additions of precautions including tampon use, Toxic Shock Syndrome (TSS), drug interactions and more (http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/safety/2005/...
