Is this a symptom ?

Question:
ok so i know this is weird but i have a friend and shes always playing with her eyebrows to the point where theyre fallingout -- not completely but shes doing it 24/7 and im worried onw day she wont have eyebrows .. why is it that she does that ? and cant stop doing it ?

Answers:
Everybody has to obsess over something, right? They'll grow back. Its not a big deal.
Actually I really wouldn't worry because this is eye brows. They will grow back. There is something with eye brows and eye lashes that some girls just like to mess with them. It's kind of like a nervous twitch but instead they mess with that. I really wouldn't worry about it unless she starts doing other obsessive compulsive things. As long as it's only eye brows I don't see a need to worry.
This is actually a psychological disorder. It is called Trichotillomania. It's a impulse control condition were people pull out their hair (head, eyelashes, eyebrows). A lot of times it is due to anxiety or stress and the more the suffer from it the worse it gets. Other times it's just because they cannot resist the urge to do it (I know it's difficult to imagine!!)
It's very difficult for them to stop even if they are aware of what they are doing and how it looks. They feel a constant compulsion to do so.

I would speak with her about it or even better, a trusted adult. There is treatment for this disorder and it's not as uncommon as you would think.
