PCOS, NOT trying to conceive---info please?

Question:
Hey all----recently diagnosed with PCOS. I'm not trying to have a kid, I'd be happy to be on BC. So the infertility is NOT an issue for me right now---which seems to rule out every answer already on this board.

What I'd like to know is basic info for a newbie, tips and hints of things that've helped you! What combos are good, should I ask for met, what BC did you like best, etc?

Thanks!!

Answers:
Yasmin or Ortho Tri-Cyclen are good bc pills for us PCOS patients. I experienced extreme nausea with Yasmin, but a lot of people do not. Ortho gave me no side effects and was wonderful. My Dr advised me since i'm also not trying to conceive that they prefer us to be on pills. These decrease some of our symptoms and also help to prevent cysts. Definitely ask for Met. It helps level out the insulin and helps prevent more weight gain if you're having those problems. We all tend to have our own symptoms so treatment varies. I have never had cysts, but did have higher than normal testosterone levels and hyperinsulinemia. I experienced in incredible weight gain while hardly eating. I was also suffering with fatigue. Your treatment will depend on what symptoms you are having and you should talk this over with your Dr. I was referred to an Endocrinologist. How did they decide your diagnosis? What symptoms were you having?
PCOS is a relatively new name for a group of symptoms that produce specific results. Usually the biggest problem is with insulin sensitivity, and dealing with diabetes.
