There must be a reason the doctor is suggesting that you have a hysterectomy. Now days, the hospitalization time does depend on the procedure used. If you are having the procedure done vaginally, then the time spent in the hospital is sometimes less than a full day.

Usually, full recovery time is 6 weeks, but you are often able to return to work in 1-2 weeks as long as your work doesn't involve heavy lifting.

If you hysterectomy involves removing the ovaries, you may start to have menopause symptoms - ask you doctor about hormone replacement and if you should take this medication. As far as affecting your sex life - many women say that they now feel better after the hysterectomy so enjoy life much more. The surgery does not affect a woman's ability to have an orgasm, but due to the hormone change, if the ovaries were removed, you may have a decrease libido.
