Rhythm method question.?
Question:
I was recently diagnosed with VERY high blood pressure and cholesterol. Consequently, I had to stop the birth control pill to prevent a stroke.
I am now going to start using condoms, but I would also like to know how to use the rhythm method as well!
Thank you VERY much!
Answers:
This article explains it much better than I could, but basically it's based on having sex when you are least likely to have an egg present.

Use spermicide as well! That plus a condom is extremely effective, and you control its use.
Or you could look into getting a diaphram.
Try using condom-safe spermicide as well. You can't be too careful since pregnancy also increases the risk of blood clots and stroke!
You need to be firmiliar with your menstral cycle.

Talk to your doctor. She will explain to you how to chart your cycle to determine when you are ovulating. It's the same thing they do with women who are trying to conceive, only you will use it for the opposite reason.
You will have to become VERY familiar with your menstrual cycle. Your OB/GYN can tell you how to keep track. Back this up with condoms that include spermicide, and if you want extra protection, you can also use a separate spermicidal lubricant. But be careful, as spermicide can cause vaginal irritation.
Just a question: have you also considered a non-hormonal birth control method such as the copper IUD? Maybe you can ask your OB/GYN about that as well.
Good luck, and take care!
