Answers:
They make anti-androgen drugs that stop the male pattern hair growth.
You probably should consider taking a BCP like Seasonique, it gives you 3 periods a year and helps with the PCOS. I just had surgery for mine, my ovary was so enlarged with cysts that it actually flopped out of place causing a LOT of pain. For severe cases that have a surgery called ovarian drilling which actually puts tiny little holes in your ovaries so you can ovulate normally. They also drain the fluid out of your current cysts. This surgery usually helps stop the hair growth after a month or two. It's worked for me, but I wouldn't recommend surgery as a first line of treatment.
It's also VERY important to take a BCP because if you don't, your periods can become very irregular and stop completely. If that happens, you can risk not being able to have children.
Also, diabetes medicine helps relieve some symptoms of PCOS.
You could also try waxing, although that's expensive - you might still have to wax every 3 or 4 days. Shaving is easiest, but your hair always looks darker when it grows back in, so unless you're wanting a new daily routine, I wouldn't suggest it. Electrolosys (sp?) might be another way to go for longer term help, but again, it might cost a lot.
Yaz was designed to help with PCOS specifically. I tried it and it nearly killed me, but every person reacts differently. You might want to check that out too.
It would really help to know what other med you were taking, that might explain your bad reaction. In any event, get your doctor to put you on a BCP that won't give you problems with this other drug. Chances are, you should be taking both.
Well, unless you can take the hormone to produce less testosterone, you will be stuck doing the plucking, waxing or electrolosis methods.
Once your hair darkens and becomes more coarse, it won't lighten again on its own.
Your best bet:
- Talk to your doctor. Get on a pill that regulates the hormones and stay on it, consistantly.
- After you're on this pill, look into laser hair removal. After about 5(+) sessions the hair will be mostly to all gone and will only need a touch up every year or so.
