Kotex brand has been my favorite as for tampons you should give them a try. once you get used to them they're more comfortable than pads.

I personally think pads are better. I use always long with flexi wings. They are really comfortable when sitting, and are harder to notice when standing.

Heavy flow its easier with pads. I used always long, thins with wings. They worked great, kept up with the heavy flow. The extra thick ones other companies put out are not only uncomfortable but don't do any better than the thins as far as soaking up the moisture. You hardly notice the thins and they do a great job.
the best brand in my opinion is ALWAYS. even though they are thin, they give good protection. since u have heavy flow days, i suggest you buy the super with wings
I use both pads and tampons. You'll have to try a bunch of different kinds of pads to find the ones you like. I use Kotex ultra thin long pads and gentle glide tampons. I really like them. I also use the Instead cup, it's like a plastic cup, you should try them too. They are sold with the tampons.
i have tried almost every brand you can think of from Always, to Kotex and have also used some store brands from Target and Kmart. but no matter what brand you buy my suggestion is to tell you to buy ones with wings just in case you have an accident. it used to happen to me all the time. also if you are deciding on buying tampons i suggest also buying panty liners just in case you leak out of your tampon just a backup protection when you cannot make it to the bathroom in enough time has happened to me more than once. hope this helps
no get pads first then when your used to it try tampons just whatever works for you when you go to buy pads buy heavy ones and light ones then when your peroid is ending use the light ones
TAMPONS! PADS SUCK! IF YOU WANT THAT DIAPER FEELING THEN PADS ARE FOR YOU, BUT IF YOUR SPORTY OR IF YOU DONT WANT TO HAVE TO FEEL ANYTHING THEN GET TAMPAX PEARLS. THEY ARE SO COMFORTABLE.YOU CANT FEEL ANYTHING. YOU CAN REALLY TRUST THEM ESPECIALLY WITH HEAVY FLOWS
I would definately get tampons because they are soo much better than pads because they are simple, they don't leak, it doesn't even feel like you have your period. The super tampons are better for heavy flow days.
for pads i like kotex better than any other brand. get the ones with wings. they don't seem great at first, but they keep your panties cleaner. i didn't like wings at first, but they really are better. for tampons, i like tampax. but you have to get the plastic ones, like the pearls. i hate the cardboard ones, they're not as nice as the plastic ones. i always use a mixture of pads and tampons during my period. too many tampons in a row doesn't feel very good. hope this helped you!

Buy a box of Regular tampons and a box of super tampons.
I use Tampax Pearl and love them!! Also if you are worried about leaking wear both a pad and tampon on your really heavy days just to be safe!
