Question:
I'm about to start talking the b.c. pill YAZ. I was just wondering, will the multi-vitamin that I am taking lower the effectiveness of it? Will it increase my potassium levels too high?
Answers:
Multivitamins should be fine. You should be using a calcium supplement anyway, regardless of whether or not you're on BCPs because you're a woman.
As for the potassium, as long as the vitamins you're taking don't contain more than 100% RDA (most contain less than 1/4 the RDA) there should be no problems. However, if you notice that you're starting to retain water (swelling of the hands, feet, and ankles), stop the vitamins (or switch brands) and see if this helps. If it doesn't, go back to your doctor.
I took YAZ for 5 months and I didn't have issues with edema (swelling) but MAN it made me constipated (among other problems with it..hope you get better results)!!
Good luck.
