I'm 16yo but no periods at all. Why?
Question:
I really want my periods to know i'm Ok. It's little nervous to me to just wait it. Maybe someone have had the same thing?
Answers:
Hi, im a medical intern. In my pediatric rotation I've seen patients who have the same problem as you. 16 is the cut-off for delayed menstruation or 'primary amenorrhea'. I suppose they're waiting for you to turn 17 because until then you could still be a late bloomer. I would agree with the gynecologist in saying that you should be ok, at least until you turn 17. Then you might have to see a pediatric endocrinologist or a gynecologist to make the appropriate tests. Good luck, and dont worry, there are a lot of girls with the same problem.
Go see a doctor cause they will have to test you. I'm sure you're fine, you're probably just a late bloomer. =)
While not having a period at your age is not common, it's not unhealthy either. You have about until you are 18 to healthfully start your period, and if your gynecologist has checked you out and said you're okay, you're just a late bloomer.
Be happy you don't have to deal with periods yet! It's not really all it's chalked up to be. Remember that it is still possible to become pregnant if you have sex, even if you have never had your first period yet, so be sure to always use protection if you make the decision to become sexually active!
I know she's told you this, but everyone just gets them at different times. Your doctor would have mentioned if you're underweight (which could stop it from coming). You just have to wait it out.
And hey, you're lucky! An 11 year old in middle school has no sympathy from her peers at school when she's on her period! As an older teen, you're more mature and knowledgeable and can take care of yourself better.
Check with your doctor again in a year or so if you still haven't started.
Best of luck!
An endocrinologist could help you...that's a doctor who specializes in hormones...
Since you're 16 and have never menstruated, its time for you to switch doctors and get a full check up done. Most girls DO get their periods by your age, so there is a good chance something is going on. Maybe you just need some meds to get you going in the right direction, but only a doctor will be able to tell for sure.
your ok... and be happy you haven't started your period. i started mines in the 5th grade and i get horrible cramps and occasional vomiting due to the muscles contracting so much... im dealing with it though, i'll be 19 in nov. so its just a part of growing up... im glad i strated early though cause it takes a lot of getting use to...
good luck!
I read in a magazine that if you haven't gotten your period by age 16 then you need to see a gynecologist. If you've already done that and she said you're fine, then you're okay. She/He is the expert and trained in this particular field so you should feel safe knowing you're fine. You're probably just a late bloomer (= Good luck!
