One of the first most important things to laying the foundation for getting into better shape;
Walk, steadily, for 30 minutes 3 days of the week. Rain, snow, hellfire & brimstone - It doesn't matter. You must maintain the habbit consistently, without fail. If there's one thing you can do but it takes all of your determination - do that. Period. It's only walking. It can't hurt, right?
The impact on you is huge. The increase in sustained cardiovascular activity at no less than 3 days a week is absolutely vital for a million reasons. From health and long life to metabolism and ones body being ABLE to deal with a healthy diet effectively.
Second, make absolutely certain that you're properly hydrated. Drink plenty of water and whatever else you can. Just remember that you need to place all the water your body loses... drinking caffine and alcohol, dehydrate you too.
Remember that when you get hungry you'll need to eat something. The better you can steer your choices the bigger the overall difference will make but you don't want to go too long between snacks & meals. By the time you're really hungry your body is probably already preparing to switch to storage mode; this means it'll be trying to store as much food as it can (in the form of fat) when you finally do eat. That's not good.
If you're really interested in being healthy which includes dropping fat there are 2 great books I would suggest for anyone and EVERYONE anyway. Not just for weight control but for healthier happier living through knowing what you're doing to yourself when you eat, what to eat & why.

By learning from those books and trying to keep them in mind whenever you can - You'll be a new person in no time.
A healthier, more energetic, better functioning, longer living, thinner new person.
Swim bicycle and eat cereal 2 meals a day.

Just cut out fattening carbohydrates such as biscuits, cakes, potatoes, crisps, pasta, rice, bread, beer and lager and all of the white heavy stuff. Eat anything else but be careful of your fat intake too. It will fall off.
try salads. and stay out of McDonald's

if you want to lose weight swim, walk, but dont over do it at the start, stay out of the biscuit cupboard and eat healthy food and if you feel up to it join a gym or if you want to stay the way you are go to the kitchen and get another packet of biscuits/crisps/chocolate. *Each under 300 calories
*Each under 5-7 grams of fat
*Each Low in carbs and high in protein
