How does one actually contract Strep B? They test for it when pregnant.?

Question:
I understand that it can be transfered to the infant during labor, and that it is "colinized" but no info on how it gets in the mother to begin with.

Answers:
the thing of it is that normally everyone carries that germ around with them and their immune systems normally take care of it. It is when the immune system has issues that there is a problem. Doctors dont really seem to know why some people have a manifestation of it. All they can do is to test for it and treat it.
i was diagnosed w/ strep b when i was pregnant w/ my daughter. the Dr. just said that its a type of bacteria in your vagina that can make your baby sick if you pass it on to your baby during labor. unfortunately, you cant be treated during the pregnancy for strep b,you have to be treated during labor with an iv of antibiotics.
