Shaving For Me-- 12 Years Old!!?

Question:
I'm 12 years old and going into 7th grade (middle school) and my mom won't let me shave. I've told her that i get made fun of, because i do, and she said no. She refuses to buy me razors. She's the type who doesn't care what others say. And she'll be furious if she finds i shave with my own razor without her permission? What should i do because the hairs are getting REALLY dark and thick and i feel gross. Kids younger than me make fun of me cause they shave and i don't. It's embarrassing. Plus my older friends make fun of me and say i need to cause i have disgusting legs.

P.S. I'm a runner and i always wear shorts and it's uncomfortable.

Answers:
You should talk to your mom about WHY you feel like you need to shave. Share with her all the reasons you listed, but try to leave the emotion out of it (don't yell, whine or cry as you explain to her). You need to help her understand why it's important to you.

If she is still completely against it, you may want to talk with friends about it and see if they can help you explain it to her. Again, urge them to leave out the emotions. If you can get the message across without turning it into an emotional battle, you are much more likely to succeed.
I am 13 and still not shaving. Nobody makes fun of you!
Yes you're mom probably will be mad if you shave. I say you should just deal with it till you're at least in you're teenage years. I used to get mad fun of for having to wear thrift-store clothes. Now I roll in a caddy on 22"s.
I would suggest talking to your school's counselor. They could probably suggest something and hopefully talk to your mom.
i started when i was 11 but it doesnt matter. my friend STILL doesnt shave her legs and she's 13 and she looks fine. people dont make fun of her and shes fine with it. and like your mom don't care what other people say just let it roll off your shoulders and you'll be fine.
Sit her down and ask her if you could please shave or wax because it will help you to feel more confident. Ask if you could even try a hair removal cream; maybe just the idea of you with a razor in the shower makes her nervous.

While I personally feel that shaving is completely unnecessary, and refrain from doing so except occasionally, I understand that some girls need to to feel cleaner and more confident. Don't shave just because you're being made fun of. Your mom is right to not care what others think; other people don't mean a damn thing. Do what you want and only that.
LOL I used to do the same thing!! I shaved without my mom's permission! But the thing about shaving is that you get these dark spots on your leg after shaving and they never come off. Ask your mom if you can get Hair-Removal creme. Just put it on your legs when you are in the shower and wash it off with water. Painless! Or you can get NAIR Wax strips... you can find these at your local drugstore
Ask your mom for an elecrtic one so you dont have to use a razor.Or you can have a talk with her about it and asl her what age she was when she got too shave...I mean thats kind of messed up of her too not let you shave when you need too.
I don't understand why she would get so upset with you. Are you sure you're not just assuming she'll get mad?? She might be worried you'll cut yourself. Ask her if you can start using an electric razor, the risk of cutting is almost none.
well my mom was like that too i started shaving when i got into 6th grade and before that i felt the same way. but if ur mom finds out just tell her that u had to do it cuz it was uncomfortable and u dont like other ppl making fun of u... and hopefully she'll trust u =)
Well, I know me and a lot of my friends started around the 5th grade...I was 10-11. I know my friend got in a lot of trouble for not telling her mother. At your age you should...you prob just need to have a heart to heart w/ her. She might just not want to admit that you are growing up. I know its hard for mothers to realise that.

Just keep working on her...ask her if she would go out w/ hairy legs in shorts...maybe she will get it then.
Just say "MOM, i am growing up!! i need to shave!! They are my legs and as long as i have access to a razor i am gonna shave them!!!" if you have your period then you should be shaving!! it is NOT that big of a deal. Your mom just doesn' t like seeing her baby grow up!
Talk calmly to your Mom and tell her how you feel, dont expect to change her mind but let her know what you are going through with kids picking on you. Remember, once you start shaving you cant stop. Be proud of who you are and dont worry about what others think of your harry legs. Shaving on your own for the first time can be a bit rough, wait for your Mom's help, I still have scars from shaving the first time not knowing how. Good luck
Ask your mom why she is so against shaving - is she because she thinks you're too young, or she's afraid you'll hurt yourself with the razor or try to commit suicide with the sharp blade?
Remind her gently that you need to grow up sometime, and this is the start of your body's changes. Point out that she needs to let you start making your own choices even if she disagrees with them, so you can learn how to be an independent adult and learn from your mistakes. Tell her you really want to respect her wishes, but you need her to respect yours as well, and is there a compromise possible? (Parents love the idea of respect).
Assure your mom that you know how to handle a razor safely, and ask her to show you tips and tricks, such as shaving creams, depilatories (no razor needed!), and which direction to shave which hairs.

good luck!
Your mom and my mom are same, my mom disagree if I shave my hair in the legs. But my mom gave me this advice why I shouldn't shave my hair. It is because if you shave your hair from your legs, they'll grow into curly ones, and they would grow longer than you had before. So try not to think about your hair from your legs.
you just have to phrase the question better. don't tell her that you want to do it because everyone else does, you'll just get the "if everyone else jumped off a bridge..." lecture. explain to her very maturely that your legs are uncomfortable when you run and you would like to start shaving them.

i think most parents are just scared about their kids growing up too fast, and there's nothing you ca do about that.
Once you start shaving it will come back thicker and quicker..I suggest waxing, it doesnt hurt, gradually reduces the hair follicle growth, will cause a lot less stress and a BONUS you wont need to do it too often... :) Choose wisely, listen to your old lady, shes just looking out for you :)
