Women only: Birth control question?
Question:
How long do I have to wait until I know that it is working ( like when can we stop using condoms?)
Answers:
You absolutely must take your birth control at the same time each day. If you don't, it WILL be less effective. If you've not taken your pill on time since you started taking it, wait until you finish this cycle, and until you can remember to take it the same time every day to have sex without a back-up method. Any day that you forget to take your pill, either completely or within a half hour of when you took it yesterday, you need to use a back-up method of contraception. Did your doctor not tell you anything about this at all?
If you don't think you can remember to take a pill every day (which there's nothing wrong with, I can't do it), go back to your doctor and try something like the patch or NuvaRing that you don't have to deal with on a daily basis (I recommend NuvaRing over the patch, as I had trouble keeping the patch ON).
Edit: After reading your profile, I think we'd get along pretty well. I'm also 19, recently married, and I have two kitties, one of which I call my "fluffy butt", but her real name is Baby. :o)
Well from what i have heard its more effective if you take it every day at the same time.. Because say if u take it at 5pm, and then the next day u forget and don't take it again until 10pm for that length of time you won't have the "drug" in your system. which isn't good. But for me personally i took the pill reg for about a month or maybe longer before we stopped using condoms.. some ppl still have condoms that have been on B.c for a year, its your choice really
You should not stop using condoms because they protect you from things other than pregnancy; such as: STDs, HIV, etc.
Birth control pills start working with the 1st dose, so you are being protected each day that you take your pill. It is best if you take your birth control pills at the same time each day. Keep in mind, though, that the only thing that is 100% effective as birth control is abstinence!
I was on ortho tri cyclen and I had to stop taking it because it made me dizzy. You should read the packet that came with the pill to make sure.
im nerli sure tht doctors say you should take it around the same time just 2 make you remember.but you just shouldnt take it over 24hours from you took ur last one.Try taking it wen you wake up in the morning,i tried it and it wrks 4 me :) hope i helped you
To be on the safe side, use your pills for at least one full month without missing any pills if you don't want to use condoms. If you can't take it the same time, try your best to take it within a half hour to an hour of the time you normally take it at.
what no one has really said yet, is that every time you take your pill away from the "normal" time, yes, it's less effective. But what they really mean is your chance of getting pregnant goes up. So say you are supposed to take it at 10 pm, and the next night you take it at 5 pm, then your chances of getting pregnant go up (I'm guessing) 25%. So now you're only 75% protected. Big difference from 99.9% when you take it the same time. That's why pills aren't as effective as people think they are. It's human nature and their chance to forget to take it, that increases your odds of getting pregnant.
I take that same pill. Just reminded me to take it oops! I personally don't take it the same time everyday...haven't used a condom with my b/f for many years. (Same partner).
I believe I waited about a month. Keep in mind that each woman is different and the pill isn't 100% guaranteed.
