you can still take one... put a tampon in if you want to but even if you don't you should be fine, it's only dangerous if you get submerged like in a pool or bath.

Not only can you shower but you're supposed to shower more than usual while having your period.
It's OK to take shower but not to wet your hair. You must dry yourself immediately after shower.
