Has anyone used the Mirena IUD and experienced any bad side effects??
Question:
Also does it hurt when it gets placed?? Is there any trouble with it moving after it's placed??
Thanks so much for your time.

I had problems with Mirena, first off its not recommended for use if you have not previously had a child. Mine never stopped or slowed my periods. I bled for 5 months straight and became anemic. I had migraine head aches from it too. Finally after 6 months I just wanted it out and my doc couldn't find the removal strings. She tried to "fish it out" with several scary looking surgical tools, it was a painful experience. Finally we opted for removal under general anesthesia with a hysteroscope. my IUD had flipped upside down and moved which made it impossible to retrieve under normal circumstances.
Getting it put in was a little crampy but not a bad experience. My complications were not typical but I wanted to let you know what did go wrong with mine. My cousin got pregnant with Mirena. I know that plenty of people do just fine but it wasn't as great as I thought it would be. Sorry for the bummer answer but its the truth. Talk to your doc to explore all your options
Hi, I think Mirena's are very safe I have had mine in for a little over 1 year now, and it hasn't caused me any discomfort at all, though I have had a lot more pimples, that is one of the side effects.
No it doesn't hurt when it is getting placed, just similar to a tampon, expect someone else is doing it so it can be a little bit uncomfortable. And yes it does reduce periods, I still get mine but it tends to only last a day or two and is very light.
Good luck, I hope I have helped you out.
i have the mirena IUD.. but when i got it in i had heavy bleeding for 5 months STRAIGHT... also, my periods arent as heavy as they were before, but they last like 9 days... i sometimes wish i would have never got it. yes the idea of 5 year birth control is apealing, but well, idk, i just wish i would have opted for something else.. but after paying 700$ for it, ima leave it in until i decide to have another baby
I just recently had the mirena put in. I am one of those who also has all the side effects on birth control. I got pregnant on the pill. Then, anything else gave me extremely high blood pressure. I so far have not had any problems. I have only spotted and had some cramps during that time. They see it could take up to 6 months for it to be "normal". I think it's great. I ask anyone I know who uses it also, and they love it too. As far as getting it put in, they say it feels like bad cramps, but I had mine put in when I had a hysterscopy,so I was asleep. I like it better that way. I'm a wimp. You can also have it taken out at anytme although it does last 5 years. Good luck with your decision.
