Why is my friend on her period for 9 days?

A period can last anywhere from 1 day to 10. If it's longer then 10 days she should tell her Mom so she can take her to the Doctor to make sure evrythings ok. Everyone is different when it comes to their cycle and at a young age it can be very irregular.
sometimes it just takes a little longer it is perfectly normal
sometime's it can last that long, it's not abnormal, there's nothing wrong with her though.but if it continues to about 2 weeks, tell her to see her doctor.
Nothing is wrong with her. Some women/girls just have longer periods than most. Its annoying, but perfectly normal.
