Bad pap test what now?
Question:
and what are the chances it is something serios?
Sorry I don't know the name of the test, hope someone can help anyway well thanks to anyone who can.
Answers:
I've had an abnormal pap twice and had to have a colposcopy (the test with the vinegar and microscope). It doesn't necessarily hurt, but it isn't comfortable. The doctor just looks around and if they find something they want to send to the lab they will do a biopsy and pinch off a piece of your cervix for further testing. You probably have HPV, which isn't uncommon, and in most cases goes away on it's own.
WIthout knowing exactly what was abnormal, it's impossible to say what exactly will happen, or how serious things are.
If you've been getting your pap done yearly, and this is the first abnormal one, then chances are everything is fine. If not, listen to the doctor, ask them the questions instead of people on the internet, and make sure you keep medical appointments. Good luck.
they use vinegar in order to "dye" the abnormal cells so they stand out. the doc will look in using a microscope. you'll have the speculum in place while they're doing this. they'll likely take tissue samples, essentially removing the layer of cells for further study. it's likely that you have some form of HPV which is causing the abornormal cells. untreated, these could possibly turn into cervical cancer. fortunately, women who get regular paps are tested for this regularly. it's extremely cureable and very rare for anyone to have advanced disease these days... as long as you go for paps as you should. there will be some discomfort with the procedure, unfortunately there's no real way to numb up that area. if these cells come back abnormal then the doc will either use a laser or a freezing technique to remove more cells from your cervix. with the freezing they put a probe type thing in there and freeze the cells off, which with slough off for up to a month. with the laser they usually do what they call a loop or conization procedure. same type of thing, both to remove cells, one with cold and the other with heat/electricity. it is very common. my sister had the scrapings done and hasn't needed anything further since then. it'll be important that you have regular obgyn follow-ups since the virus can come and go. docs do the pap to catch these things early. it's very likely that you'll be fine. write down questions before you go to make sure you know everything and understand what they're doing. hope this all helps. good luck.
Are you sexually active? If so, then it is HPV, the virus that causes warts and cervical cancer. You probably have abnormal cells found in your pap smear test. The vinegar is to see the warts. I had the test and it wasn't painful, but it was uncomfortable. You will be asked to lie on your back with your feet in the stirrups. As in a regular pelvic examination, a speculum (an instrument used to hold the vaginal canal open in order to examine the interior) will be inserted into the vagina and opened slightly so that the cervix is visible.
The area is then viewed with a colposcope, a small low-power microscope used to magnify the surface of the vagina and cervix (the most accurate method). The cervix is swabbed with a vinegar solution (acetic acid), which removes the mucus to help highlight abnormal areas. The colposcope is then positioned at the opening of the vagina and the area is examined. Photographs may be taken.
It most likely isn't serious, probably warts. Just be sure to have all recommended test performed. I hope this helps and good luck.
