Yeast infection are caused my many things other then sex. Stress, poor diet, not being clean or even wearing tight pants..
There are over the counter products that you can buy that will clear it up. And eat some yogurt... that helps to
I hear ya because I had my first yeast infection as a virgin.
You can get it from poor hygiene, wearing too tight pants, wearing nylon underwear, sitting around in a wet bathing suit.
The best treatment (especially if it's your first time with one) is to see a Gyn. He/she will give you pills to kill the infection. Some doctors may give you Monistat cream instead of the pills. That works too, but it can be messy. Be sure to finish all of the medication even though it looks like the infection has cleared up.
There is always bacteria in the vagina, also the intestinal tract -- it supposed to be there. It's when it grows out of control that it turns into an infection. You can get it from eating too much sugar, and the other reasons people have sited. There are over the counter medications but they say only a doctor can get it truly under control. Also, eat yogurt.
yeast infections are caused by fungus and yeast which grow due to an excess of simple carbohydrates in your body such as refined sugar, soda pop, white bread and noodles, try eating vegetables and whole grains and also a product that helps a lot is called Pau'D Arco. you can get this at http://www.mynsp.com/kandismm
A lot of things can cause you to get out of balance 'down there' and develop a yeast infection or bacterial vaginosis (BV). Its extremely common and doesn't mean anything is dirty or that you 'caught something nasty'.
If your discharge is thick (almost like cottage cheese) then it's probably yeast. If it's thin with an unpleasant odor, then it's probably BV and you should see your GYN (don't be ashamed ... this is sooooo common!)
Yeast infections are really easy to treat with over the counter creams and suppositories. Go to your local pharmacy and look in the women's health section. Even supermarket health sections have it. One brand name is Monistat, but you can get the store brand equivalent for less.
