Help! if you know anything about vicodin, or if you took it, come here!?
Question:
Well, I took a vicodin around 5:30 and went to sleep and woke up at about 10:30. I ate a cheeseburger, and I threw up. But heres the thing, I feel dizzy also. I feel sick, and I am hungry. I dunno, maybe I overdoesed? I can barely type. My mom won't talk me to the hospital, and she thinks it is normal. Is this normal? What can I do? Thanks

Some people are very sensitive to vicodin, and it sounds like you're one of them. If you still need to take it for pain or for cough suppression, I'd suggest taking only a half-tablet from here on. If THAT still causes your symptoms, it's possible that you're allergic (some people are VIOLENTLY allergic to it and other codeine-type substances), and you should contact your physician; it should also be on your medical records if you prove to actually be allergic, so that you will not be given it in the future.
No, you did not overdose.
Vicodin (which is an narcotic) can cause nausea, vomiting, dizziness, shakes. One pill does not cause an OD. If you had an allergic reaction to the Vicodin, it would have happen about 35-45 minutes after you took the pill..not 5 hours later.
Your mother is right. It's normal. Next time, try eating something (not a cheeseburger--maybe soup, toast--something light) about 30 minutes BEFORE you take a Vicodin.
did you take it to get high? Because that's what you are... HIGH! Don't take it again. You'll be fine. Drink lots of water and don't eat anymore junk.
You should have gotten a pamphlet with your prescription which shows all side effects. I have been on vicodin and yes, they made me dizzy and sleepy kind of weird feeling. It's a narcotic. Read up on the side effects and if you can't tolerate them, than call your doctor.
Sometimes you're supposed to take those painkillers with bread or milk to prevent you from getting sick.
I've had them make me sick too. Which is why I don't take them.. just try to deal with the pain with ibupfrofen.. you can take 600 - 1000 mg if it is bad pain.
If you just took it for a high you deserve to throw up. Drugs have side affects!! Not much can be done for that. You only took one, unless you're oddly allergic you didn't overdose.
your stupid you cant od on 1 your making yourself sick by worrying about it id advise you to stay away from drugs if your so damn scared of em
Get your A** to the hospital. You could be having a reaction to the vicodin. I have used them before but have never had what your describing. Don't mess around, Your heart might not be able to handle the strain. Please go or call an ambulance.
Dizziness is one of the side effects. It is suggested to take it with food because it can upset your stomach. You might be allergic this medication.
vicodin is sooooo strong. tell your mom you really have a bad feeling about this and you need to go to the hospital.
if she refuses, keep pushing.
vicodin is highly addictive and is very strong so your body probably isn't used to it. you're "suffering" the effect that vicodin addicts go through all day every day...so if it gets too bad...keep asking your mom.
ps- drink some water! it might help.
yeah these are side effects of vicodin...you didn't overdosed if you took it as directed...if you don't feel comfortable taking vicodin, take tylenol (as directed) for the pain only..don't take tylenol (the other name for tylenol is acetaminophen) and vicodin together b/c if you read the ingredient for vicodin, vicodin is nothing more than acetaminophen (tylenol) with hydrocodone (the narcotic everyone is talking about)...if you take both, you'll be overdosing on tylenol...just take tylenol or motrin. good luck!
Vicodin (lortab) is for pain. Since you mention your mom, I assume you are a child and would most likely have not been prescribed this med. If you took one, you will be fine. If you took many you could have overdosed . After 5 hours, the med is already absorbed into your system (and if you took one, your "high" is just about over. Do not take any kind of medicine that is by prescription only if it is not prescribed by a doctor for you. Why isn't your mom concerned?
Well, Vicodin contains codeine or hydrochodone, which can cause the dizzy, sleepy, 'drunken' feeling. That's why some people become addicted for that feeling. I'm not sure the milligram you took versus your weight, or the reason you have the Vicodin to begin with may be making you ill. If you threw it up, it may have been too high of a dosage, so cut it in half if you must take it again atleast 4-6 hours after the last dosage. You should try to eat something at the time you take it so as not to take it on an empty stomach which could make you sick. If I take a Vicodin, it knocks me out, but doesn't last more than a couple hours, but I'm an adult women and have had it prescribed a few times in my life. For my mom, it does the opposite and wires her up. Since it sounds like you haven't taken it before, you are just now experiencing the particular effects it has on you. It helps with pain, but if the other side effects are too strong, call your Dr. and tell him/her and ask for something else. I don't think the ER could do much unless you took more pills than you were prescribed and they'd pump your stomach, but when you vomited you probably got anything that might have been left after all the hours you slept anyway out of your stomach then. Try to lie down awhile, and get some rest!
( I am assuming you took the correct dose that your doctor prescribed.)
Your okay sweetie. Its common to feel that way and to throw up too. Next time try eating 30 minutes before you take the pill, you can also try to take 1/2 of the dose.
Sleep it off.
