Pap Smear..YAZ...PMDD?

Question:
Do you have to get a full check up (pap smear, breast exam) if you have PMDD. I want to get on YAZ (or birth control) to help me..but I really don't want to have a Pap Smear..or any doctor looking at me. I've never been to the gyno so I don't know what to expect.

Answers:
Yes. They will do all that. (Pap smear, breast exam, pelvic exam, possibly taking blood and other things, depending on what you're there for). The breast exam is nothing. It doesn't hurt or anything. The pap smear just feels like a little pinch. Nothing more than a shot feeling. It's really nothing either. And the pelvic exam is a little uncomfortable, but it's over in no time.

You're going to have to deal with it someday, so might as well get used to it. It's seriously not as bad as you think. I thought the same thing, and after I went, I realized worrying about it was a little silly.

good luck.
Yup, they will have to do a full check up. No big deal really. Necessary to get the prescription for the pill.
They usually like to give you a full checkup prior to perscribing you birth control, especially since you have never been to a gynecologist. And it doesn't help that you have PMDD. Pap smears are certainly a nuisance, but they're usually quick. In the long run, it's worth it. ;)
Good luck sweetie.
You really need to go and find out what's happening to your body...might help to see a female gynaecologist and also take a friend with you...please go; you will be glad to have some answers that you need.
It depends on what your doctor says about the medication.

The PMDD should not effect what your doctors says about the check up.You either need one or you do not.BUT since you have never had one. They will most likely say you need one.

Women are supposed to get a pap and breast exam once a year. You need to.They need to check for cancer.

It is always uncomfortable, but you have to do it.The gynos are used to doing it.They will not remember you.look at it that way.Take a friend with you.or your mom.for comfort. You can ask for a female gyno.

What to expect:

They are not in the room when you strip.and put on the gown and sheet. The physician or operator collecting a sample for the test inserts a speculum into the patient's vagina, to obtain a cell sample from the cervix. A pap smear appointment is normally NOT scheduled during menstruation. The procedure is usually just slightly painful, because of the neuroanatomy of the cervix. However, this can depend on the patient's anatomy, the skill of the practitioner, psychological factors, and other conditions. Results usually take about 3 weeks.

Then they give you a breast exam.it is pretty quick.
You've got to remember that these doctors do it all day. It's their job! They've seen everything. You really have to get over this modesty thing. You can get a lady doctor if you'd rather. But you're going to have to have pap smears. There's just no way of avoiding them. And they're no big deal, as long as you relax!! Bring your mom or a friend with you. You don't want breast or uterine cancer, do you? You have to grow up on this one. We women just have to do this. I hope you're listening to what I'm saying. It's all true, no getting around it, and it's NO BIG DEAL!! With PMDD, yes. Have your first pap smear, then you'll know what to expect, and you'll see you were anxious about nothing. I promise. Lynn :) C'mon, girlfriend!! Grow up! Do it!!
