Questions about hymens - girls only please?
Question:
I asked the nurses assistant after the doctor left what she thought he meant by his question and she said she thought maybe that meant the hymen was broken, but he didn't write anything in the chart.
So my question is does that mean that the hymen was broken? The first time I used a tampon it hurt alot (this was a about 4 years ago) and I know that I was not inserting it in correcty.
Answers:
Your hymen could have been broken by the tampon.
The hymen is a thin membrane, and it usually is flexible enough to stretch with tampon use, but not always. Some women have a thicker hymen which can tear and cause pain.
If the doctor asked, then there was probably more damage to the hymen than would normally be caused by tampon use. There are a number of different causes for this (Anything from a bike accident to masturbation).
If you had difficulty using a tampon, you probably had a thicker hymen, and if you were definitely inserting it incorrectly then you could have done extra damage to your hymen (which won't hurt anything in the long run).
well yes, probably your hymen was broken, because otherwise the tampon wouldnt have hurt to come in, but your hymen can be broken when playing sports. i hope i answered your question, but im not a doctor, so maybe you should have just asked him. next time do.
good luck!
I would guess that yes, it is indeed broken...why else would he ask you "are you sure you are a virgin?" A broken hymen is a telltale sign of sexual activity, but it can be broken many other ways like with tampons, if you play sports...etc.
It probably is broken or partially broken. But there are many way to do that without being sexually active. My broke when I fell of my bike and I was 11 at the time. It could have broken, when you first used a tampon. But that doesn't matter. And if you are afraid a man wont love you because he thinks your not a virgin, then he isn't worth it. Plus most men can't tell the difference anyway.
