In addition to the finding a comfortable position advice - standing, sitting, standing with a leg up on the closed toilet seat, I would also add lying down. When I was younger this was the only way I could do it.

If your hymen is still intact, you may have find a different angle to get it in. So try different ways - to the left or right, back or more forward.
omg read the paper that comes in the pack
wow u read the directions in the box and just relax
First try an easy glide or a Tampax pearl. Relax and then try again. You are gonna have to be in a comfortable position. Some people sit while others stand, and some have to stand and put their leg on a counter.
find the hole then go up then then back. dont go just straight back.
You MUST relax or nothing will go in there! Please read the directions that came with the tampons, it explains how to put it in and what direction.
There should be a paper with directions in every box of tampons.I reccomend Playtex Gentle Glide, if it's your first time, use the Slimfits for teens. You MUST relax, just relax, I can't stress it anymore because if you don't, nothing will be able to get through, nothing. Just sit up straight, RELAX, position the tampon the right way and slide it gently as it says in the directions. Good luck!!
Every box of tampons should come with directions inside. In the USA they are required to by law, but I'm not sure about other countries. (You said "holiday" so I'm guessing you're in Europe somewhere...)

Some women have trouble relaxing their vaginal muscles, which can make it difficult to insert a tampon. The instructions in the box show several ways to stand/sit that might make it easier for you.

You could also try smaller tampons. They also have smaller applicators. They are marketed as "teen", "junior", "slim", and "sport". Almost every brand has a version for young women.

If you've been using a brand with a cardboard applicator, try switching to plastic, and if none of this works, try using a very small amount of lubricant on the applicator of the tampon. Something like petroleum jelly works well (Vaseline).
