Is metformin the same as advandia ?

Question:

Answers:
No they are not. Metformin actually decreases the glucose secretion and increases cellular response to insulin. Avandia increases cellular response as well, but does not increase insulin secretion. They have just one similarity in that they increase the cellular response to insulin. Avandia's generic name is rosiglitizone maleate and Metformin has no generic name. Since you have access to the internet, I would suggest www.drugs.com or www.rxlist.com to look up the medications and see what the difference is for yourself. It may be explained better there than I can explain it.
No, Avandia is Rosiglitazone.
Glucophage is the brand name of metformin.
