Hysterectomy?

Question:
I am seriously contemplating having a hysterectomy. I am finished having my children. I am 42 this year. I have fibroids which causes heavy loss every month & I gain 2 kg a week before my period and loose when finished. (Not to mention PMS)
The only thing stopping me is the side effects. Eg; Weight gain! I am only 5ft tall and try and keep my weight stable due to health issues. I would like to keep my ovaries!
Any women out there who has had a Hysterectomy? And what is your opinion? Is it worth it? Does it bring on early menopause?

Answers:
I had a hysterectomy at the same age, I bled so heavily and for so long at a time that my red blood cell count was dangerously low and I needed transfusions. As you get older you will tend to gain weight with or without the hysterectomy, its better to gain a few pounds than lose that much blood.
You can have a hysterectomy without the ovaries being removed then you will go through menopause at the usual time. Is it worth it? You bet, if you aren't bleeding all the time you have more energy, you can do more, go more places.
I know this sounds silly, but the first thing I did was buy the most beautiful lace trimmed set of WHITE sheets and pillowcases, something I could never have done before.

I had no fibroids they had no idea what was going on, not all fibroids give you heavy periods, and you can have heavy periods without the fibroids being the cause.
you would not contemplate major surgery to alleviate those symptoms please talk to your doctor
my mom had a hysterectomy and shes completely fine! No sign of menopause and shes 46 years old! I say go for it!! It's good to not risk having any more kids, trust me!

All my best,
Brittney xo

oh and for the idiot above me: JUST DO IT! IT'S FINE. DON'T LISTEN TO HER. SHES PROBABLY LIKE 23.
Don't have a hysterectomy until you consider other options. I had a uterine artery embolization for fibroids. This procedure involves having an intervention radiologist inject a small amount of a solution that contains tiny beads into the artery that supplies the uterus. The beads block the blood flow to the uterus (and the fibroids) and the fibroids eventually shrink. It can be done in a few hours and you can probably go back to work the next day.

Check with your doctor about who does the procedure where you are.
My mother gained SO much after the hysterectomy... She had it because of her health, but now I am sure she regreats it!
talk to your gyno and possibly a surgeon before deciding. Removal of the uterus without removing the overies should be an option . That will prevent an early menopause.

It is major surgery, which does have risks .

Only you can decide if the benefits outweigh the risks.
