Is there a nurse or doctor that can answer this?

Question:
I am 36 yrs old and have 3 children. My youngest is 17 months old. I am still nursing her btw. My periods have always been somewhat regular and I've never had spotting in between periods. until now. About 4 months ago I had mid cycle bleeding, nothing real heavy and only lasted a few days. After that I was every 28 days on the nose. This month, however, I was about a week late. My periods have been lasting for 6 days. This month it only lasted 4 days. Two weeks later on day 14, I started bleeding (mid cycle). It has been like a heavy period. Today is the 5th day and I am still bleeding. Could it be hormones? The only thing I can think of is, I started running about 3 times a week in the beginning of June. Could that throw my hormones off that much? Also, my daughter has been sick off and on. When she's sick, she nurses more. I thought maybe the combination of the two might cause this, but I don't know. Should see a doctor now, or can I wait? Please advise...

Answers:
You can wait to see a doctor. However, all of the things you've listed (hormones, exercising, etc) effects your period. Also, you may be in perimenopause, you are approaching that age. Some women go through menopause before 40, some not until they're almost 50.
