Period help?

Question:
i'm 12 turning 13 on august 16 and i just had my period for the first time. i was taking a nap(wich i NEVER do) i woke up and went to the bathroom i wiped and there was blood (LOTS) i flipped,i grabbed a pad from my mom's stash and used it. now can i sleep with this thing on?

Answers:
Absolutley you can sleep with it on.
If you are going to use them at night, I suggest asking your mom to buy some that have wings to protect your underwear form any leaks that may occur.
Also, they are much safer to sleep in than tampons. Tampons shoud be changed frequently (no longer than 6 hours) to prevent toxic shock symdrome.you can read about that on a tampon box.
Don't freak out too bad about the whole period thing-I started when I turned 11! And now I am 24!
But sweetie, it really is something that you should talk to your mom about. You could just mention it in passing if that makes you feel more comfortable. Or just tell her, but say that you really don't wanna talk now..your mom is a great source of info for you-use her!

i can answer your period questions
put on fresh pad before going to bed!
ofcourse, but be sure that u change at least every 5 hours. (at night you can keep it on the whole time but just at night) did you tell your mom?
Hey. its very simple. change your pad right before you go to bed. Then wake up and change it again. Good luck!!
yea, if you are very heavy you may want to chnge th epad when you wake up during the night(if you wakeup). Tampons work alot better and are NOWHERE near as messy as a pad!
Yes, you can sleep with it on. Make sure you change them often. Talk to your mom, she'll be able to help you out and get you your own stash. Congradulations!!
First off, talk to your mom. It is important that she knows what is going on with you. You could have problems, and she needs to know so that she can take you to a doctor. Also, yes, you need to sleep with a pad on. Otherwise, you will have blood everywhere. Also, if you choose to use tampons, you can keep them in for no longer than 8 hrs. Since you are so young, I would use a pad if I was you. Good luck!
It depends on what kind it is, there are special overnight kinds that cover a larger area and are better for sleeping overnight.
I have found that any pad works fine overnight. Though, if you are worried about leaking tonight then wear one or 2 extra layers of underwear that you don't care about or sleep with a towel, that you don't care about, under you. I have also found that the blood flow usually isn't a lot at night because you are at a horizontal position. A little while after you get up in the morning is when you should expect the flow to be a lot heavier, but don't worry too much. Be sure to put a fresh one on before you go to sleep and a fresh one on in the morning (on a school day you should put a fresh one on a little before you head out for school and stash a couple extra in your backpack or somewhere you feel comfortable carrying them)
Have you told your mom yet? If not, she can help. Also, try looking on the Internet for information about what pads are right for you etc. if you don't feel comfortable telling your mom.

Good luck!

If you want to ask specific questions about having your period but don't want to tell your mom that you've had your period yet, you might try looking online, one place I found helpful when I got my first period was Kotex's website. Also, just go to Google and search "first period" if you can. You don't HAVE to tell your mom yet, but in time you should, unless you are prepared to buy your own pads. She will eventually notice if her pad stash is getting smaller and she hasn't been using them.

Sorry this is so long. One thing you should do is put a little mark on a calendar on the day you started and on the day it ends. Do this every period and eventually you might be able to predict what day (or week) you will get your next one. But don't worry if your periods are irregular, most peoples are irregular when they are first getting them.

I hope I've been able to help some.
you can sleep with a pad on. the kind with wings are best, especially if you move around a lot in your sleep.

you should let your mom know that you've started having periods so that she can buy you your own stuff. ask her about tampons, too... women in their 40's and 50's tend to use pads out of habit because of all the old myths about tampons that went around when they were teens. pads were more popular then, but tampons are really more effective, especially when you're sleeping.
Yes you can sleep with a pad on. Put on a new one before going to bed. You won't be able to keep this from your mum for long. Eventually she is going to realise pads are missing. Also you could have an accident one day where you get blood on your underwear or while you are sleeping it could get on your pyjamas. Your mum is also going to know the day will come and she may be able to tell later on like if you don't want to go swimming for 5-7 days straight or something like that. If you have any other questions you can email me.
First of all, you really shoudl tell your mum. I know you don't want to and it might seem really embarassing, but I'm sure she will totally understand and help you out. And I'm sure she would want to know!
Just ask if you can talk to her alone if theres a lot of people in your house, and just tell her that you have started your period.
Trust me, its not a big deal to tell her and she can help you out loads!
Your mum will probably figure out anyway when loads of her pads go missing!

Yeah, you can sleep with it on but change it to a fresh one just before you go to bed and when you wake up.
