Answers:
Unfortunately, they can't give general anesthesia for a gyno visit. It doesn't take very long at all and they need you awake to answer questions. It's really not as bad as you're anticipating. Believe me, I understand your fears. The first time I ever went to the gynocologist I was 17 and 6 months pregnant so I was definitely very anxious about it but I felt much better as soon as I got in with the doctor. They're used to seeing women who're nervous and they deal with it every day. Seeing a woman gynocologist as opposed to a male may make you feel more comfortable and so may taking a good friend or you mom in with you. They'll let you take someone in with you if you'd like. Also, a lot of times, your general doctor that you go to for everything else can help with gynocological issues too if you'd feel more comfortable there.
I don't know about general anesthesia. However, if you are really that nervous, they may be able to give you something to calm your nerves. That would really be up to your doctor, but ask if you feel that it is needed. Call your gynecologist and find out if this is an option. There are medications that can help with this anxiety.
Maybe you should go see a doctor about your anxiety problem first. The gyno is no big deal. Go see a woman doctor and tell her how freaked you are and she will explain everything. Have your mom or your best friend go with you. Ask a woman you are close to if you can go to their appointment to see what it's all about. Educate yourself about it and it won't be so scary.
Hmm Maybe you should talk to your real doctor?
Find a woman GYN. They see nervous gals all the time. It really isn't that bad. Besides, if you are just starting your periods, you will be irregular for the first one to two years. That is normal.
no, anesthesia is only used when necessary, b/c complications that are life threatening can possibly arise when using it. You need to go by the time you are 18 or sexually active, which ever comes first. Sorry, you're just going to have to get over it.
it's normal to skip [periods when you're young, you shouldn't need to go to a gynocologist for that
I think you should go. You will find that it is not so difficult after all. Don't know if it is healthy skipping months at a time.
