If your tampon hurt while it was in, you obviously did not have it inserted correctly. (i.e. not in far enough). When you took it out, it was probably too dry and it pulled the lining of your vagina. Sometimes it takes several attempts to insert a tampon properly where you can't feel it. Keep trying!
