PCOS QUESTION!! Do you think my doctor could perscribe me a glucometer?

Question:
I have severe sugar lows because of my Poly cystic Ovarian Syndrome. I was on metformin and birthcontrol but I quit taking them because I didn't like the side effect of both medications. When I was taking the metformin, my sugar was always constantly low, around 75- 85. Since I've quit the metformin, I feel more normal, but once a week to a couple of times a month, I always have a really bad sugar low where I'm extremely dizzy, and I vomit. Do any of you who suffer from PCOS only have a glucometer? Could I ask my doctor about them? Could it help moniter my glucose problems?

Answers:
If you just want to use one and are not trying to get your insurance co to pay for it then you will not need your doctors permission to get one. All you have to do is go to the drug store and purchase one along with strips. Make sure to take into consideration the cost of the strips they can vary in price. And which ever monitor u choose you will have to stay with that type of strips for it. The cheapest ones I have found is in walmart monitor is Reli-on the strips for 50 are 21.00 . This monitor works very good and only cost about 12.00.
But if you want to file monitor on your insurance you will need to contact your doctor to call pharmacy to order you one. And also strips.
