If it was months between it's usually normal.
You really should get it checked out.
This happened to a family friend and it ended up being Fibroids(sp?). You should get it checked out.

Hey this can be pretty normal.. but I'd get it checked out just to make sure. I have clockwork periods that are super regular but every once in awhile, I'll have two in one cycle and then some months i'll miss it completely.
But just to be safe, get it looked at anyway. I'm sure it's nothing. Some women have very irregular cycles and it's just who they are. I hear the pill can help to regulate them but I have no experience with this. This information comes from a couple of friends who use it to regulate their periods and make them less painful.
it's normal. A period will take 28-35 days to come after your last day of your last period. If you are really worried, see a doc.
if it is that often, get it checked out, the doctor could start you on birth control to regulate it, even if it is the mini pill, which would not prevent becoming pregnant. too much blood lose can cause health issues if it continues.
Your age has a lot to do with it . If you are still pre-children your period may not get regular untill after you have children. I was like you when my period started, at 13 yrs. until I had my first child at 19yrs. After that I became like clockwork. I knew when it was going to happen.
