I may have started my period but the blood (if it is blood) is black, is this normal?

Question:

Answers:
Nothing coming out of your body that's black is normal, dear...go tell your mom about it and then go to the doctor if you determine that it really IS black, and not just a dark brown, which is normal.
BLACK,BLACK or really, really, really dark red?
It should be completely black, but it's normal - the black is usually the lining of your uterus which is being shed.
ermm. from personal experience.
yea.
its normal.
Bleeding Black and Brown Clots
A friend of mine is bleeding black and brown since the start of her period a couple of days ago. Is this bad? She said she has a lot of pain down there, too. She's really afraid of what could be wrong with her. If anyone knows anything about bleeding black and brown, please help us out. Oh, and she had her last period 2 weeks ago, so she is early. Could this just be left over from last time? --About Women's Health Forums
Many times, young women are frightened when they discover dark clots of tissue in their menstruation. Most often, this is a part of the endometrium (uterine lining) shedding and is nothing to be concerned about. If your friend continues to have severe cramps or abnormal periods, she should contact her healthcare provider for an evaluation
it's dried up blood
probably not.call nurse and see doctor..could be miscarriage and you would need help with the after effects of that.plz see dr....
yea its normal. when your on your period not just blood comes out. dead tissue and other materials come out as well. it can be black, brown, pink, and red.
Yep...normal...Dry blood..Congratz

P.S..Periods suck >:{
that happens ro me but you may want to go to a doctor.
Is it black when you wipe or is that the coclor on your panties. The darker color means that it is old blood. You may want to go see your OB.
It can be one of two things - your period last month did not completely strip away all the tissue lining and this is the month old gross stuff, usually accompanied by smell (had that happen and hauled butt to the doctor because of the story below).

OR it can be signs of a much more serious problem.. my mother had a dark/black discharge and it turned out to be cancer. I don't want to scare you unnecessarily but whenever something dark, nasty or foreign is coming out of an orifice on your body you should always have it checked out. I'd rather feel silly if it's nothing than put it off until you are in danger.

You seem to be getting answers addressed to young people. What is your age? This can help us know.
Yes. When I first got my period is was BROWN. I thought i had crapped in my pants but knew that I didn't. It comes out very dark at first. Your 2nd period should be red colored. Call your doctor if it stays black colored.
