Is there really weight gain with Depo Provera?

Question:
I've heard horror stories, but haven't seen any proof... Anyone with personal experience? If no one has had any serious problems, I'll be going with that!

Answers:
I gained 20 pounds after the first shot and so never went back for another. It depends on the person, but you can't just stop taking it, once you get the shot you gain what you're going to gain (if it affects you that way) and there's nothing you can do about it at that point. That was hardest weight to lose, too, I had to go on a 1500 calorie diet and exercise for an hour every day for 3 months to take that weight off!
i believe that there is weight gain everyone i know that has been on it has gained a lot of weight and went down after they went off it, also i went with my friend to planned parenthood and the doctor there said that it can make u gain up to 30 pounds a year so yeah its gonna make u gain weight, i'm stayin away from it
If you are prone to weight gain then you probably will gain while taking DP. If you don't have a weight problem to begin with, you probably won't have a problem.

I have had weight problems my entire adult life, so I gained about 5 pounds a year. Alternatively, I had a friend that took it for 10 years and never gained a pound. If you go into it with the awareness that it might give you problems, just pay attention to what you eat and how much you exercise. I didn't gain until I quit being aware.
I never gained an ounce, but I too have heard of women gaining weight with it.

The key is to be VERY aware of cravings, and exercise regularly.

Also, my doctor told me recently that it is advisable to use Depo for a maximum of 2.5 years (although I used it twice as long before having problems).
i have a daughter that was on depo and she gained 40 # also had 2 women friends that were on depo and they gained 30 to 50 # each ...so i would say yes it does cause you weight gain...you can discuss this with your dr..they should have an alternative...bob
Oh yeah and it makes you moodier too.
Im on it and Ive actually had less appetite. Absolutely no weight gain. Its all a matter of balancing your hormones. Some women dont need the progesterone Depo provides and that is why it affects them like it does. I needed the depo and so it has helped me all around. Hormones are a tricky thing things could tip one way or another if you dont know where your hormones are to begin with . I knew I had a progesterone deficiency and estrogen dominance. If you take it for birth control you should check on that first. It definately is NOT for everyone.
I went on it 8 years ago & gained 20 pounds. I got off of it 4 years ago and went 3 years before I got on it again. The second time I got on it, I didn't gain any weight. Try to figure that out.
